Caregivers from abroad play a crucial role in supporting families in Canada. Their dedication positively impacts children, seniors, and persons with disabilities.
As the Home Child Care Provider Pilot and the Home Support Worker Pilot conclude this month, the Honourable Marc Miller, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, has announced new and improved caregiver pilot programs. These initiatives will allow caregivers to continue coming to Canada, with the ultimate goal of making these programs permanent.
The new pilot programs will grant home care workers permanent residence (PR) upon their arrival in Canada. Additionally, they will be permitted to work for organizations offering temporary or part-time care for individuals who are semi-independent or recovering from an injury or illness. This pathway simplifies the process for caregivers to secure employment with reputable employers and ensures straightforward access to permanent resident status immediately upon their arrival in Canada.
Candidates interested in working in Canada’s home care sector will be eligible to apply for these new pilot programs if they meet the following criteria:
- Achieve a minimum of level 4 on the Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB)
- Hold the equivalent of a Canadian high school diploma
- Have recent and relevant work experience
- Obtain an offer for a full-time home care job
These PR on arrival pilot programs represent a significant advancement in Canada’s efforts to address the evolving home care needs of its diverse population. Further information, including comprehensive eligibility criteria and application details, will be provided before the official launch of the programs.
